The needs of our children with visual impairments are unique and complex. Meeting academic requirements while necessary, is not adequate to ensure educational success. In fact, students need to be taught disability-specific skills to ensure access to the academic curriculum. These skills are incorporated into the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with visual impairments, and includes skills such as, orientation and mobility, visual efficiency, as well as skills in the use of adaptive technology.

Current system does not provide instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum for our students with visual impairments. To better understand the challenges our students go through without additional support in disability-specific skills, please read the guide provided in the link below.
